ADDITIONAL PHOTOS AND UPDATE - Progress!

ADDITIONAL PHOTOS
These photos are from yesterday, 3/22/12, and you can see how the beach is beginning to actually be widened and the drop off of the sand where they have built it up.  They are truly running out of sand to move from the big pile in the distance.  They cannot pump it in from off shore as fast as they are moving it down the beaches.  So next week, no dump trucks and the beaches will be open all week.  Just pumping sand from the barge onto the shore.  Yes, there is progress!!!!

Waikiki Beach Sand Progress mid March, 2012

WAIKIKI BEACH PROGRESS
Below are some photos of the progression of the widening of the beach in Waikiki.  I have to admit that they are actually making progress.  The beach is wider but still a mess.  The water is a milky white and the beach goers continue to be crammed to the incomplete part.  Please see the photos with more to follow.
The pile of sand that has been pumped in from off shore is dwindling.  They can't pump it in as fast as they are moving it down the beach.

The beach is closed off but they let surfers thru the barriers when the trucks go by

Lots and lots of people by the Moana Surfrider and Royal Hawaiian all jammed on the beach

The water is milky white, not blue

NEW YOUTUBE VIDEO on WAIKIKI BEACH REPLENISHMENT

Below is a link to my new video that I posted on YouTube.  This is a first for me so if you have a moment, please take a look and give it a thumbs up and rate it.  The work continues at the beach and the trucks are working at a frantic pace moving the sand.  Most of the beach is closed from 7a-12p but the open part is mobbed with tourists, elbow to elbow.  They are simply out of room.  I'll keep you all posted and thank you for reading!!!

WAIKIKI BEACH CLOSED TO DUMP TRUCKS HAULING SAND

DUMP TRUCKS RULE THE BEACH!
Well, they've actually followed thru on their Plan B, or is it Plan C?  No, wait, maybe it's Plan D! Yeah, that's it, Plan D, for DUMP TRUCKS!  When pumping the sand underground to the Royal Hawaiian turned out to be a bust, they came up with an alternate.  Close the beach each day, from 7am to 12pm and truck the sand down the beach, one section at a time.  Today was the first day of this sand ballet, of sorts.  I do have to admit, it was fun to watch.  Here's some video of what they're up to.  More to follow!  The section of the beach that is open is wall to wall, bathing suit clad tourists.  Fun, fun.  They are estimating that this will take a month.  Let's time them, shall  we?

UPDATE, AGAIN, TO WAIKIKI SAND REPLENISHMENT PROJECT

Here we go again!

Another pump down and finally, finally, finally, they realize that shooting the sand thru a pipe from one end of the beach to another just isn't going to work.  DUH!  Here's the new plan.  To bad it includes SHUTTING DOWN THE BEACH ENTIRELY EACH DAY FOR 5 WEEKS.  Are they nuts?  Each day, starting March 12, 2012, they are going to shut the beach down for the first 1/2 of the day.  Right in the middle of Spring Break.  Once closed, they will truck the sand in dump trucks, across the beach, down to the area that they are widening.  Read the article below for all the yummy details!
